Is Fahad Mustafa Dissing Mehwish Hayat’s Web Series?

Web series and short films need to be a little dignified or they should just call it porn – Fahad Mustafa

The actor turned game show host Fahad Mustafa is riled up about the direction Pakistani content is taking.

His recent tweet expressed disapproval at the state of web series. One can’t help but think that he’s allegedly taking a jab at Mehwish Hayat’s new web series about a rock-star.

Fahad Mustafa Speaks

The actor called for a clearer distinction between freedom of speech and content.

Based on what he said, most people are of the view that the tweet is symptomatic of an average Pakistani artist who is tired of commercial content and in favor of quality content.

But the tweet has got people talking about who his target was. Some people just can’t help but think it is a dig at Mehwish Hayat’s web series. The actor’s last line does seem to be making a reference.

“Web series and short films needs to be a little dignified or they should just call it porn…”

Given that Fahad Mustafa explicitly mentioned web series and short films rather than commercial films or feature films, you can’t blame people for thinking its controversial.

Web Series – A New Frontier?

In a world where streaming services are expected to replace cable television altogether, web series are growing popular.

Another plus that comes with web series is that they are not made with the objective of commercial success and TRPs.

In fact, one person pointed out web series contain content deemed too offensive, extreme and raw for the small and big screens.

Fahad Clears the Air

Later on, Fahad tweeted out that his tweet referred to foreign content not local content producers. He may have realized that the timing and phrasing of his tweet may have been controversial in nature.

No matter whatever the original intent, we are glad that he cleared the air.
