Its Official: “Coolie No 1” Is Getting a Remake with Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan

The announcement came on Varun Dhawan’s birthday

David Dhawan and Vashu Bhagnani are teaming up again for a reboot of their famous 1995 film Coolie No. 1. This time with David’s son Varun Dhawan, and they made the announcement on his birthday.

Coolie No. 1 casts Varun Dhawan opposite Sara Ali Khan (best present the Student of the Year actor could give us).

Indian journalist Taran Adarsh spilled the beans regarding this development, just in time for Varun’s 31st birthday. According to the industry expert, Coolie No. 1 will start shooting in August.

Coolie No 1 Release Date

As for when the fans could finally expect the movie, Coolie No. 1 is scheduled for release this year.

It’s official… After 25 years, David Dhawan and Vashu Bhagnani reunite to adapt their timeless comedy Coolie No 1… Stars Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan… Shoot begins August 2019… Coolie No 1 is David Dhawan and Varun’s next collaboration, after the super successful Judwaa 2.”

More Reboots

The reboot will be Varun’s third film with his father in the director’s seat. They’ve already taken on these roles in Mein Tera Hero and Judwaa 2

Judwaa 2 was the remake of David Dhawan’s 1999 film Judwaa. It cast Salman Khan as the lead.

Meanwhile, David Dhawan’s Coolie No. 1 cast Govinda with Karishma Kapoor. While Bollywood films mostly do identify as rom-coms, Govinda was known for bringing that extra dose of laughs.

We wonder how true to the original the reboot will be. Bollywood Hungama reports that the reboot will retain two songs from the original film, Husn Hai Suhana and Main To Raste Se Ja Raha Tha.

Even the Songs are Getting Remade!

From reboot to remix, Bollywood has really been swept up with remakes. Classic songs like Tu Chez Badhi Hai Mast and Dildar and Chamma Chamma are getting a shot in the arm as well.

Even today, people jam to songs like Main To Raste Se Ja Raha Tha. We wonder if they will remix the song for the reboot film? However, Bollywood Hungama doesn’t think so.

“We plan to keep the original songs in the remake. Why should David Dhawan re-mix those hits when they are popular to this day?”

The same report said that Varun Dhawan’s ‘Coolie look’ will be revamped, featuring a more contemporary look.
