While women are put under a lot of scrutiny for bringing up their experiences of domestic abuse an rightly so, there are a few who do no justice to the cause. Some women create doubts leveling false allegations. Case in point – Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Both of them took turns at filing a domestic abuse case against the other.
Who’s The Abuser?
Depp and Heard had a 4-year-long relationship, a tale that includes domestic abuse and what not. Amber first claimed that the Pirates of The Caribbean actor was “verbally and physically abusive” towards her back in 2017.
Following her accusations, #MeToo supporters and enthusiasts took to social media to express their disgust towards Depp’s alleged actions. Soon the superstar was ‘cancelled’ and there was a notable decline in his fan-following.

While on the other side of the story, Johnny Depp alleged that Heard was the actual abuser and instigator in this relationship. Depp accused her of being physically violent to a point where she sliced his finger upon breaking a bottle over his hand.
About a month ago, audiotapes of conversations between Depp and Heard were leaked. The audio tapes confirmed that not only Heard was the abuser, but that Depp preferred to “walk away” from fights. If Heard was not the primary abuser, then at the very least, the physical abuse was mutual. It also negates statements made by Heard in the past.

One Role, Two Actors
Depp recently filed a lawsuit against Sun Newspaper and executive editor Dan Wootton over falsely accusing him of being a ‘wife-beater’. The article was posted in 2018, and had comments from his former wife, concluding her as a victim.
While the defendants will try to fight the case on grounds that the article was not defamatory because of the accusations and truth, the plaintiff will fight to clear Depp’s name of these allegations.
One of them is lying and doing so on a grand scale; It is a very important function therefore of this libel trial that these allegations are tested, and either proved or disproved.
Depp filed a lawsuit against the newspaper in hopes of clearing his name.
A lot of feminists have maintained their silence even after the leaked audio tapes surfaced on the internet. It couldn’t have gotten any more complicated, and we can’t wait for the drama to find its duly waited end.
