When it comes to the coverage of scandals in Pakistani media; there’s an underlying feeling that women, more often than men, are at fault. Case in point, when pictures and videos of celebrities got leaked, men and women alike share them with their friends and further defame the person in question. We saw this in the case of Rabi Peerzada, and most recently Alizeh Shah.
We have seen a lot of celebrities being targeted like this in recent days. Now actress and host Juggun Kazim speaks against the bias surrounding these leaked pictures; She opines that why is it that women are the only ones who come under fire over leaked videos and pictures.
The Sad Reality of The Media
The actress, TV host and YouTube personality appeared on a talk show hosted by Mubashir Luqman. The topic to be discussed? Whether or not someone’s personal pictures or videos should be exploited.
It seems like the public still doesn’t understand how misogynistic the media in Pakistan is. Where a man can kill his mother and be forgiven by his father, a woman’s privacy is exploited and mocked like it is everyone’s natural instinct.
While addressing the misogyny in everyone’s mindset, Juggun said:
I have seen male models and actors on social media who post pictures in which their whole bodies are visible. Their private parts are (barely) covered, and nobody bats an eye.

Mubashir comes at this issue from the other end of the spectrum. He suggested that people who take pictures and videos like that, want others to see them. Which is quite ironic, given how he himself was involved in a controversy regarding a leaked behind the scenes interview not too long ago.
Let’s take a look at their interview:
They both agreed that sharing pictures and videos of a particular nature, to further exploit someone’s reputation, is wrong.
Luqman suggests that people make such videos to leak them intentionally. A psychological problem he calls it. He also mentioned how only a celebrity with a dull career becomes famous over a leaked video; hinting that it is nothing more than a move to steal the spotlight.
To this, Juggun said:
When people make their name in the media they do it after a lot of hard work. You know that we earn when a good brand comes to us, we earn a lot and no brand takes such people whose private videos and pictures have been leaked. So no actor or actress would destroy their career by their own hands.

if you're someone who shares leaked pictures/videos & hypes up problems, don't be offended when ariana isolates herself on social media.

You know what the most upset thing about the recent scandal? You guys focusing more on the relationship than an actual person really leaked a cctv picture online. Not to mention harassing everyone until they apologise. That’s the real problem there.

God punish whoever “leaked” these pictures. I’ve worked nights for five years, and many of us have had serious health problems – this is such bollocks. Curse them. The Sun stay sunning. https://t.co/IHjk8Vuenl

Some celebrities have worked for days and nights to achieve a level of respect in an otherwise disrespected media. If anyone partakes in defaming, frauding and or threatening someone’s hard-earned respect and fame, then they are the ones who should be looked at.
This is not a gender problem, and goes for anyone. Nobody’s leaked pictures should make headlines and everyone has the right to their privacy.
