Zoya Akhtar created a Bollywood rendition of Archie Comics as a Netflix show ‘Archies‘ and Netizens have a lot to say.
The 80s hit American comic rose to fame as a newspaper comic strip, Archie Comics. Later the characters were used to create an animated television series titled, ‘The Archie Show.’ While ‘The Archies’ is a fictional American band derived from Archie Comics and featured in the comic strip and animated series.
Bollywood is no stranger to ‘borrowing’ ideas from foreign films, particularly Hollywood. However, Bollywood renditions are often critiqued for missing the mark and storyline.
This time around though, Netizens are pointing out the nepotism as Zoya Aktar teased the first look at the cast of Archies.
Audiences have been slamming Bollywood over nepotism as of late. This particularly picked up momentum with the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.
The first look at Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies, had Netizens calling out the starkid cast. The cast included Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan, late legend Sridevi’s younger daughter Khushi Kapoor, and living legend Amitabh Bachchan’s grandnephew, Agastya Nanda. With Agastya in the titular role as Archie, Suhana as Veronica, and Khushi as Betty.
Some even called it the ‘Justice League of Nepotism‘.

Some others were far less comedic about the situation.

Others called out how South Asian audiences turned to Netflix for more original content but even that is becoming a platform for Bollywood pet projects.
Given the fact that Netflix is the most expensive OTT platform in India, it needs to have top tier Indian content to compel people to pay a premium for it.
Funding pet projects of Bollywood families is not it, boss. International corp feeding the nepotism circle. Pathetic. https://t.co/bC4elEagWZ
