Kashmiri Student Dies While Taking a Selfie

In this capitalist world, we have become slaves to our phones. With all the incidents that we encounter on a daily basis, a strange case was reported yesterday.

In an attempt to take a ‘cool’ selfie, a 19-year-old boy fell into the Poonch River in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, February 6.

The young student, identified as Hamid Raza, was trying to take a selfie on the brink of the river when he slipped and fell. His body was later retrieved by the rescue divers and moved to the nearest hospital for medical and legal formalities.

According to reports, Hamid was a student of B.A at a local college.

Tourist Met With Similar Fate

It seems that the ‘selfie trend’ is never going to die. A similar incident was reported in November, 2019 where a French tourist lost his life while trying to take a selfie in Thailand. The 33-year-old man fell from a waterfall as he was taking a selfie.

Rescuers reported that it took a long time to retrieve his body as the waterfall was slippery and steep.

More Selfie Deaths?

According to a 2018 report, a total number of 259 selfie deaths were recorded between October 2011 and November 2017. These global incidents were mostly reported from India, Russia, USA and Pakistan.
