Khalil ur Rehman Gets Shut Down During Motorway Rape Protests [Video]

Another needless controversy.

Khalil ur Rehman Qamar on motorway incident

The Lahore motorway rape incident sent shock waves across the country on Wednesday, September 9. Thousands of women and men came out on the streets in several cities to demand justice for the survivor. Many people also called for the authorities to find and ‘hang the rapists’.

Playwright Khalil ur Rehman Qamar also decided to join the protest at Lahore Chowk, on Friday. On Thursday, he took to his Twitter to request his fans and followers to stand with him in the protest.

Background

KRQ has been called out for being a misogynist on multiple occasions. The writer was under fire for body shaming and abusing Marvi Sirmed on national television in March 2020.

The verbal spat between the two got so intense that the news channel was fined with a hefty sum of money.

He has gone on record to oppose Aurat March, saying that he believes that both men and women have the same problems.

KRQ put on blast

It seems that the Mere Pass Tum Ho writer forgot his stance and was trying to seek attention by ‘supporting women’ this time. But that wasn’t how things played out for him during an interview at the protest.

As KRQ was about to make another ‘controversial’ statement, a journalist called him out on his misogynistic remarks. Activist and journalist Husnain Jamil Faridi reminded him about his past problematic statements.

“Sir, you used to say that women shouldn’t leave their homes,” he interrupted.

After a few arguments, Khalil ur Rehman Qamar responded to his comments but once again, resorted to demeaning language. He said that he ‘curses the shameless journalist’.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Husnain Jamil Faridi reacted to his words and said that he was proud of what he did.

“I proudly bash this hypocrite, dual and ignorant misogynist who constantly negates the genuine issues of women. He is convicted in body shaming, misleading people. I confronted him with the word ‘Ap’ (which he doesn’t deserve) but Just check the language of this jerk.”

Have We Failed Our Women?

In his article, Faridi explains he cannot tolerate KRQ’s hypocrisy. That is why he called him out. Time and again, KRQ has let down the spirits of women in Pakistani society. He refuses to accept and understand their problems.

He wouldn’t feel terrified by a woman if he walks out on the streets at midnight, but that is not the case for a woman. Pakistani women, regardless of their age, religion, or clothing, are not safe.

And yet, people like KRQ believe that women and men share the same problems. In fact, the people who have sworn to protect us are also blaming women for going out late. Blaming the victim is all the authorities have been doing.

Instead of taking responsibility and explaining what his force was doing to apprehend the rapists, CCPO Umar Sheikh said it was the woman’s fault for traveling late at night along with her 3 kids.

On top of that, he asked women not to leave their homes. When the interviewer asked him to take back his words and apologize to the public while he still had the chance, he said women should travel with men at all times, and if there is no one to accompany her, she shouldn’t go out because ‘it’s a man’s world’.

Taking his remarks into light, Husnain Jalil Faridi said CCPO’s mindset is not that different from Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s because both are inherently misogynist and blame women for society’s ills.
