Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore has come under public scrutiny for their job ad posts. The university is hiring competent people for specific job roles such as ‘Human Resource Officer’ and ‘Manager IT’. But unfortunately, the college missed the mark with its ‘male-only’ advertisements.
The advertisement was published in Jang Newspaper and the ‘male-only’ requirement for the job positions seems quite prejudiced to say the least.
Kinnaird urged male candidates to apply for the positions, while only reserving the vacancy of ‘office assistant’ for women applicants.
The irony is, Kinnaird College is for ‘women’ and each year, so many talented and skilled women graduate from here. The fact that a highly reputable institute like Kinnaird openly discriminates between its job candidates is being called out by many.
People are calling out the institution on their biases. They are reminding them that women can equally perform well in these positions. It’s the 21st century and netizens do not want them to reinforce old stereotypes that women are only suitable for jobs such as ‘office assistant’.
