For a time, it seemed like everyone’s favorite Tough Action Dad Liam Neeson could do no wrong. The Taken star has entertained millions of fans with hit action movie after hit action movie. Age was proving to be no barrier for the Irish Hollywood star.
Those days may be coming to an end, as Liam’s recent comments have landed him in trouble. The action star revealed that once upon a time, he contemplated taking revenge on a random ‘black bastard’ over what happened to a friend of his. His comments were not taken kindly, and many have labelled him as a bona fide racist.
Here’s the whole story.
Liam Neeson’s ‘Racist’ Comments Land him in Trouble
The actor was speaking to ‘The Independent.’ and recounted in detail that he once sought to take revenge on any black person because a friend of his was raped by one. Years ago, Nesson learnt from someone close to him that a friend of his was raped.
Nesson recalls how angry he was about the whole thing, and started entertaining thoughts about killing a random black person in return. He says that those thoughts were natural, and that his point was to show that violence and revenge doesn’t accomplish anything.
“I went up and down areas with a cosh, hoping I’d be approached by somebody — I’m ashamed to say that — and I did it for maybe a week, hoping some ‘black bastard’ would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could … kill him.”
This is the statement that provoked a deluge of outrage against the superstar, and it seems there’s no coming back after this one.
Neeson Says He’s Not Racist
He concluded that interview by saying,
“It was horrible, horrible, when I think back, that I did that. … But I did learn a lesson from it, when I eventually thought, ‘What the fuck are you doing,’ you know?”
His comments went viral, and many pointed out that as a white man, this was him exercising his white privilege. The very fact that he had to say ‘black bastard’ was enough to indict him.
To control the damage his comments caused, the actor appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America. He insisted that his comments were meant to show honor, to stand up for his friend who had been wronged. He also revealed that he recanted once he sought the counsel of a priest, who pulled him from doing something very wrong.
Social Media Pours Scorn Over Liam Neeson
Neeson is fast losing fans if the internet is to be believed. He’s also became the butt of all jokes as well.
Liam Neeson being ready to take any Black life over what one person allegedly did just shows how meaningless and inconsequential black lives are to some.
Even him telling the story demonstrates a level of privilege and understating that there may not be repercussions.

In recent news, the red carpet premiere of ‘Cold Pursuit’ has been canceled. The movie stars Liam Nesson among others.

In a sad twist of irony, Cold Pursuit follows the story of a snowplow driver (Neeson) who seeks violent revenge after his son dies mysteriously.
Guess the more things change, they remain the same. The internet seems to agree that Neeson became more or less the character he played since his 2008 blockbuster Taken.
