This year’s Lux Style Award (LSA) is already in hot water for not nominating a single female singer in four categories for Music, including Best Song, Best Singer, Most Streamed, and Best Live Performance.
Meesha Shafi was the first one to take notice and stand up for this gender discrimination, and was seconded by Zeb Bangash. After them, Momina Mustehsan also took a stand for her fellow artists and called the LSA out for completely ignoring every contemporary female contributor in music.
The Baari singer shared this detailed post on her social media account:
Apart from Meesha Shafi and Momina Mustehsan, many other female singers like Zeb Bangash, Maria Una, Zeb Bangash, Rachel Viccaji, Natasha Noorani, Risham Faiz Bhutta, Eva B, Rutaba Yaqub, Natasha Baig, and Nimra Rafiq reposted on their Instagram stories in a show of camaraderie to shame the Lux Style Award.
LSA manager, Fareshteh Aslam, responded to the criticism over the lack of female representation in the Music Category, saying that the artistes who had submitted their names will be nominated, after which voting will take place to choose the winner.
A social media user highlighted that the revealed list is not that of the nominations as it is a submissions list.
Taking to her stories once again, the Hot Mango Chutney Sauce singer questioned why it was not mentioned on the LSA list if this truly is the case. She also remarked that many of her male colleagues who had made it to the list had never submitted anything.
Let’s see where this matter will go further. For more updates stay tuned and if you have anything to add comment in the section below.
