When you think of women in the military, we often think of medical professionals. Yet, Major Samia Rehman of Pakistan Army asserts that women can hold themselves just as well when it comes to military strategy.
Not many women in the Pakistan Army hold positions of authority in the infirmary and artillery. Officers in military corps not only execute military strategy but also formulate these strategies.
So how did a lady make it among these ranks? We all know Pakistan is one of the biggest contributors to United Nations’ Peacekeeping Missions. While many of the women sent on these missions are from the medical corps, not all of them are.

UN peacekeepers aim to protect civilians by deterring armed groups in the country. As part of her efforts, Major Samia Rehman helped prevent the escalation of the conflict. This must have been reassuring for the population.
Pakistan is the biggest contributor to UN Peacekeeping missions in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This isn’t the first time Major Samia Rehman put Pakistan front and center on the international stage.
Her efforts have not gone unnoticed by the UN. Late last year she was awarded the UN Special Representative for Secretary-General (SRSG) Certificate of the Year for 2019.
