While we should all be taking the Coronavirus pandemic more seriously, Lahore police got bashed for taking the pandemic seriously. All this because they arrested Maria B’s husband Tahir Saeed for endangering others by hiding a Coronavirus case.
Here’s what happened.
2 days ago, Lahore police raided fashion designer Maria B’s house and detained her husband. All this occurred after one of their servants tested positive for COVID-19. Instead of quarantining and getting the patient the medical help he needed, Tahir and Maria decided to send him away to his village, potentially infecting more people with the virus.
The designer shared her ordeal in a video message saying;
“My house was raided as if I was the biggest drug mafia don in Lahore,”
Maria B is very upset that police raided her home and took away her husband – as if it they were criminals

She explained that an FIR was registered against her husband, without the presence of a lawyer.
“They said to me ‘you are the culprit‘, I ask why? We’re the ones who are suffering,”
Her video was actually a plea to the Prime Minister Imran Khan to answer ‘is this the system that we have in Punjab‘. Unfortunately, excessive use of police force is a national phenomenon in Pakistan.
In this case, though, you can’t really judge before hearing the other side of the story. The police registered an FIR over charges of concealment of the cook’s illness (COVID-19) and endangering others.
Rather than place the servant Umer Farooq in self-isolation, he was sent home to his village. Yes, they deliberately sent a carrier to infect an entire village.
According to Lahore police;
“Tahir Saeed after knowing that his chef was corona positive sent his employee to his village through local transport, which is a big crime. Hiding a corona patient is no small deal in times of global crises and we will ensure that all such acts are also duly followed up.”
Even if they didn’t send him and allowed him to leave without reporting it to authorities, that’s still the concealment of the cook’s illness and endangering others. What would be called ‘criminal negligence’ amid the pandemic?
In the end, it was the lab that carried out their responsibility and informed the authorities. This led to Netizens calling for the accountability of Maria B and her family too.

Too bad that accountability is no longer in the cards as Tahir Saeed has been released. Maria B released another video statement clapping back at those criticizing their negligence and calling out their privilege.
While they thanked the government for the release of Tahir Saeed, they blamed the government for their own negligence.
“What else were we to do? Servants are not slaves. We have children at home too. We took the best decision we could after the authorities failed to handle the situation and left us no choice by leaving us in the dark.
The couple cited that cases of police brutality are hushed up.
“They were under no illusions of what the country’s police is like.”
Yet that still doesn’t explain their negligence on the matter of Umer Farooq, endangering the lives of others and exposing the entire village of Vehari to a COVID-19 carrier.
We live in a place in which powerful, influential and people connected to powerful are always protected and even state/govt institutions bent to there wishes and desire. Just imagine if this is done by someone who is an average citizen not having powerful and influential saviors behind him. This is what now Pakistan stands for. The only change PTI brought is to have two systems one which protects there own and powerful and the other who criticize them or against them. This is not riasaat e madina.
Maria B’s husband did a serious crime in sending their chef away without telling the authorizations about it. Police did good thing on arresting him. To hide a person tested positive for COVID-19 IS A SERIOUS CRIME. Maria shouldn’t do all such drama after that #PARHA LIKHA JAHIL PAN#
People like Maria B think they are privileged and above others. They only selfishly thought about themselves without bothering about the safety of other citizens. What the police did with them is well deserved. Citizens should not be giving business to a woman who has no civic sense.
