Marvel Removes BAFTA Award-Winning Pakistani as Blade’s Director

The President of Marvel Studios is currently looking for a replacement director.

Marvel Studios has announced that Bassam Tariq is no longer directing its upcoming film, Blade, starring Mahershala Ali. Kevin Fiege.

Although the President of Marvel Studios is currently looking for a replacement director, he confirmed that Karachi-born Tariq will stay on as an executive producer.

Marvel Studios officially announced,

Due to continued shifts in our production schedule, Tariq is no longer moving forward as director of Blade but will remain an executive producer on the film.

For his part, Tariq expressed gratitude to Marvel Studios and Kevin Fiege saying,

It’s been an honor working with the wonderful folks at Marvel. We were able to put together a killer cast and crew. Eager to see where the next director takes the film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Blade suffered a major setback months before going into production as the firm let go of Tariq.

The production of the film was set to start this November Tariq left due to a scheduling conflict.

It is unknown whether his departure will delay or affect the filming in any way.

The vampire action film starring Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali as the titular hero is slated for a November 2023 release. He will be joined by supporting actors Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre.

Blade is one of the most eagerly anticipated Marvel projects ever since its announcement at San Diego Comic-Con 2019.

Bassam Tariq is a renowned filmmaker who made headlines with his recent project Mogul Mowgli, a rap drama featuring Riz Ahmed.

It will be a tough task for Kevin Fiege to find a replacement director to fill in Tariq’s shoes.
