Marvel’s Daredevil Will Not Return for a Fourth Season on Netflix

Our worst fears confirmed

Marvel's The Defenders

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is booming, things aren’t getting better for their shows at Netflix as series after series is getting axed. The next of these unfortunate victims in this budget cut spree is none other than Marvel’s Daredevil.

The decision, just months after both Luke Cage and Iron Fist were cancelled just dug deeper into our fresh wounds. The online streaming giant announced that even though they feel bad for us they’re not willing to do anything about it.

“We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note.”

The announcement then preceded to thank the show runners and Erik Oleson. Though the company made it clear that Hell’s Kitchen won’t have another round, they left the door open for the possibility of Daredevil cameos in other series.

Just earlier this month the main showrunner Erik Oleson pitched the idea of Daredevil Season 4 to Netflix and his public announcement made our hearts beat with new hope. That tone has been muted now, and most of us Daredevil fans might as well get on with the six stages of separation.

It seems like yesterday Erik tweeted that he pitched season four of Daredevil to Netflix made us hope for the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen.

Deep down it was expected though, as Daredevil’s viewership numbers dropped by more than half of its previous one this year. When Iron Fist and Luke Cage were axed, we feared the worst.

We’re still holding on for dear life with Jessica Jones and The Punisher. No update on their return dates though.

On the upside Disney has started its own streaming service Disney+. So there’s hope that these Netflix Marvel shows might find a new home like cop comedy Brooklyn Nine Nine did. In the meantime Disney is trying to bag followers with a Loki and Scarlet Witch series for Disney+. Finally someone is doing what MCU didn’t, give Scarlet Witch her own gig.
