Matchbox Shots to Bring Late Rapper Sidhu Moosewala’s Story to Life

The production house behind ‘Andhadhun’ secured the rights to Juipinderjit Singh’s book ‘Who Killed Moosewala?’

The life and untimely death of the late Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moosewala are set to come alive on the big screen as production house Matchbox Shots secures the rights to adapt the book “Who Killed Moosewala?” by crime journalist Juipinderjit Singh.

Known for producing hits like Andhadhun, Monica O My Darling, and “Scoop, Matchbox Shots is gearing up to bring the intriguing story of Sidhu Moosewala to life.

Juipinderjit Singh’s book delves into the complex life and tragic demise of Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, who was fatally shot in Punjab in May 2022.

Expressing his excitement about the collaboration with Matchbox Shots, Jupinderjit Singh stated,

The moment the book was published, there was a lot of interest from various production houses. I was really impressed with the kind of work Matchbox Shots is producing, and I am thrilled that they have taken the rights to the book to develop it further.

The project has garnered interest not only for its focus on the life of the late rapper but also for its exploration of the intricate relationship between the music industry and gang conflicts in Punjab.

Sarita Patil, producer of Monica O My Darling, highlighted this aspect, saying, “We have always found the macabre relationship between the music industry and gang wars in Punjab extremely intriguing. With Jupinderjit’s book ‘Who Killed Moosewala?,’ we know we have a strong backbone for our story.”

The responsibility of bringing this compelling story to the screen will be led by Dikssha Jyote Routray, who emphasized the need to deeply consider and understand the multifaceted exploration of crime, fame, and music in Punjab.

While the creative vision for the project is taking shape, whether it will be presented as a feature film or a series is yet to be determined.

Sidhu Moosewala met a tragic end on May 29, 2022, when he was shot over 30 times by unidentified assailants in the Jawaharke village of the Mansa district in India.

Canadian-Punjabi gangster Goldy Brar, who was associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for Sidhu’s murder.
