Meesha Shafi and Hasan Minhaj to Costar in Pakistani-American Film ‘Mustache’

The singer-turned-actress will play the lead role in this coming-of-age movie with Alicia Silverstone.

The pop star Meesha Shafi is all set to make her mark in the Pakistani-American film Mustache with popular comic, Hasan Minhaj, and Clueless star, Alicia Silverstone.

According to the entertainment website Deadline, the film marks the directorial debut of Imran J Khan, known for the award-winning short Prom, which was based on ideas from Minhaj’s stand-up special Homecoming King.

Rizwan Manji, Atharva Verma, Ayana Manji, Meesha Shafi, Alicia Silverstone, and Hasan Minhaj have signed on to star in the largely autobiographical project.

I can’t think of a better team to partner with to bring this film to life”.

Mustache revolves around Ilyas (Atharva Verma), an eccentric 13-year-old boy who sets off to navigate the social hierarchy of his new California public school with a mustache his parents will not allow him to shave off.

Rizwan Manji will play Hameed, Ilyas’s father, and Meesha Shafi will play his mother. The latter’s daughter, Ayana, will play Ilyas’s school friend, Yasmeen.

Details about Alicia Silverstone’s and Hasan Minhaj’s roles haven’t been disclosed yet.

Christina Won of Birdman fame and Jessica Sittig are producing the movie along with American Light and Fixture’s Christopher Storer and Tyson Bidner, the duo behind the hit series Ramy and The Bear for Hulu and FX, respectively.
