Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy to Direct New Star Wars Film

Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will be directing a new but untitled Star Wars film.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the Pakistani-Canadian filmmaker has been brought on board ahead of the final script so that her own vision for where the story is headed is included.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will be working with American screenwriter Damon Lindelof in this secret new film for Lucasfilms, a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios. Lindelof, who has written for shows like Watchmen and Lost, will be co-writing the script. For now, it is unknown who his writing partner will be. Meanwhile, no script means production is not currently in sight.

The title and story of the upcoming project are under wraps, as, according to Deadline, it is allegedly one of the more guarded secrets in all of Hollywood.

After successfully directing episodes for Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel, this will be Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s second collaboration with Disney.

That’s not all. There are rumors circulating that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is set to make her directorial debut with Paramount Pictures’ adaptation of the novel BrillianceIt is said that Will Smith is in talks to star in the upcoming film, as is Pakistani actress Mahira Khan.
