Saba Qamar recently appealed to her male followers to ‘break the bro code’ and ‘call out men in your circles with predatory behavior’ in light of the Noor Mukadam case. Pakistani singer Meesha Shafi was quick to call her out for being a hypocrite.
Earlier this week, Saba Qamar took to her Instagram to share a message with her followers, addressing her male fans in particular. She urged them to speak up for women and stop enabling sexual predators.
“If you are a man and you’ve ever cared even once for any woman in your life, please call out men in your circles with predatory behavior. Please break your bro codes. If you cant do that then stop pretending to be an ally because you’re only enabler then.”
Meesha Shafi responds
Meesha couldn’t hold back and commented on Saba Qamar’s plea. She called her out and said,
“This is what epic hypocrisy looks like, ladies and gentlemen.”
In the following stories, Meesha offered the context on the matter and wrote,
“A lot of you are asking for context out of genuine curiosity and need to understand. Partying with, supporting, giving/sharing space, validating, endorsing and doing frivolous Instagram Lives with known sexual harassers and then putting out holier than thou statements about calling out predators is literal hypocrisy.”
The singer remarked that people might have missed it or forgotten about it, but, ‘the victims and their trauma can’t miss it or forget even if they want to’.
Meesha Shafi asked the Cheekh actor to hold herself accountable for supporting and defending predators rather than making ‘holier than thou’ statements.
“You don’t get to say this [call out sexual predators] without first holding yourself accountable for your own enabling actions and words defending and supporting predators after survivors have shared their experiences against all odds.”
