Actor-cum-singer Meesha Shafi has filed Rs. 2 billion in damages against former colleague Ali Zafar in Lahore High Court.  Meesha has accused Ali of making false allegations against her on media.

The singer has demanded Rs. 1 billion as compensation for “the loss of goodwill and repute,” while another Rs. 1 billion for “mental torture” she had to go through.

Moreover, she has also asked the court to declare Ali Zafar’s statements against her as “false, malicious and defamatory.”

In her petition, she opined that those statements were made to “injure her reputation in public.”

“It is prayed that the defendant (Zafar) be permanently restrained from making any further defamatory statement against the plaintiff (Shafi).”

Meesha’s lawyer has argued that Zafar’s ‘defamatory statements’ destroyed her reputation before her fans and had adversely affected her.

Background

Almost a year ago, Meesha Shafi accused the ‘Teefa in Trouble’ actor of engaging in sexual harassment. Ali Zafar has denied these allegations and alleged that these accusations had severely affected his career.

He took the matter to the court where Meesha’s consul kept seeking adjournments.

The hearing on the case started in April this year – one year after the lawsuit was filed – with some eyewitnesses terming Meesha’s allegations as false. The case is currently underway at a session courts in Lahore.

Meesha’s counter suit came after Ali Zafar reacted on social media and filed a damage suit worth Rs. 1 billion against the actress.
