After the bill for the rights of Pakistan’s transgender community was passed by the government, the entertainment industry can easily show trans characters and their achievements in drama serials. Subsequently, actor Muneeb Butt is going to play the country’s first Transgender Assistant Commissioner in his upcoming project with Saba Qamar.
The actor revealed his role in an Instagram post with a series of pictures. He captioned it:
Am really excited to announce that i am playing a very unique character of first trans Assistant commissioner in my upcoming project.
Something that breaks the stereotypes in our society.I had been anxiously waiting to reveal the character that I will be playing soon. It has been the most challenging role I have ever had to play, where I had to truly get out of my comfort zone. Hope you enjoy the journey with me. Will be looking forward to your feedback.

Pakistan’s khwaja siras’ (transgender community) rights, gender identity, and human sanctity have been a much-debated public issue for decades. The community was legally recognized as the ‘third gender’ via a Supreme Court ruling in Pakistan in 2018.
Consequently, Pakistan is now one of 12 countries in the world that recognizes transgender identity as a huge step toward equality.
Previously, the depiction of transgender lives had never been the priority of Pakistani television shows. Occasionally, some cisgender actors would be asked to perform shemale roles for the element of comedy, which perpetuated a wrong stereotype of the people of the community.
The Pakistani visual media has started presenting transgender in a less conventional way in recent years, depicting its members’ struggles for their basic human rights and respect for their achievement of milestones.
