National Shame: Why the Minar-e-Pakistan Incident Is Being Called a Conspiracy?

The incident on Independence Day being called “400 Vs 1”, was a meet and greet gone wrong.

Minar-e-Pakistan incident - Ayesha Akram

Victim-shaming has stooped to its lowest level, as people are alleging the Minar-e-Pakistan incident – where a mob of 400 harassed and assaulted a lone woman, was a publicity stunt or ‘anti-Pakistan campaign.’

The incident on Independence Day being called “400 Vs 1”, was a meet and greet gone wrong. TikToker Ayesha Akram was harassed by 400 men. Videos of the incident went viral. While we thought the brutal harassment shook everyone, some people are framing this as a conspiracy.

The fact Ayesha Akram didn’t reveal that the Minar-e-Pakistan incident was a meet and greet gone wrong is being used to fuel conspiracies. Perhaps she withheld that information due to fears of being victim-shamed. After all, people even found ways to blame the woman in the Lahore Motorway rape case.

In an interview, the TikToker denied calling fans for a meet and greet. She explained that a guard helped her get away from the mob but she was cornered. At that point, she could either jump into the water or stay there. That’s when the mob caught up and lifted her up like a rag doll.

Somehow inviting fans for a meet and greet makes the assault that followed to be the TikToker’s fault.

By taking the blame away from the criminal in any way, you are condoning a crime by not holding the actual criminal accountable.

Then the fact that legal action commenced after the footage went viral and Netizens expressed outrage, is also being used against her.

However, had it not been for the attention online, would Punjab police be making an effort to track down the 400 people?

Even Prime Minister Imran Khan personally spoke to Inspector General (IG) Punjab in this regard.

To date, since the FIR was registered against those 400 harassers, police have arrested around 33 suspects. Since the culprits posted evidence of their crime online within hours, many of their faces were also revealed.

The fact that this heinous incident is being painted as a conspiracy is outrageous. It is also alarming, what lengths can the masses droop to, in order to lay the blame on a victim!
