The veteran Bollywood star, Sunny Deol is all set to shine on the silver screen once again with his much-awaited film, Gadar 2. Directed by Anil Sharma, the film brings back the old cast including Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma. Recently, the trailer of Gadar 2 was released with pomp and show but Deol’s statement on India-Pakistan relations stole the spotlight and garnered mixed reactions from the public.
As the event coincided with Kargil Vijay Divas – India’s annual commemoration of soldiers lost to the Kargil war, the diplomatic statement of BJP MP went viral all over the internet. He cited the “political blame game” as the cause of hatred between India and Pakistan, as reported by ANI.
He stated,
There is love on both sides. It is the political blame game that creates hatred between India and Pakistan, a theme reflected in this film. Both nations comprise people who seek peace, as we are essentially one and the same.
#WATCH | Actor Sunny Deol at the trailer launch of his film #Gadar2 says, "There is love on both sides (India-Pakistan). It is the political game that creates all this hatred. And you will see the same in this film as well that the people do not want us to fight with each other." https://t.co/oc5ZHLmsqO pic.twitter.com/OYVPVRWnCZ

While some appreciated his call for peace and understanding, many from India criticized the actor’s remarks on Twitter (now termed X), as being too diplomatic or even opportunistic to gain a wider audience, especially in Pakistan.

Gadar's USP was Pakistan bashing. The only plausible way for the Gadar sequel to succeed was to persist with that bashing, and make audience feel the nostalgia. But ironically the lead man is peddling the long dead Aman ki Aasha sentiments at the promotions! What self goal!
