Every now and then, the great pyramids of Egypt are linked to a new discovery that raises more and more questions about the true origin of this famous wonder of the world.
Recently, a team of researchers has come forward with a bold claim that there is a “vast underground city” beneath the Khafre Pyramid built 38,000 years ago—tens of thousands of years before the pyramids themselves were built.
If true, this new discovery could rewrite human history about the pyramids, but experts and Egyptian authorities are far from convinced.
The team, led by researchers from Italy’s University of Pisa and Scotland’s University of Strathclyde, used radar pulses to map structures deep beneath the pyramid. They claim to have identified eight massive wells, each 33 to 39 feet in diameter and over 2,100 feet deep, connected by staircase-like structures and rectangular enclosures.
The researchers believe these findings point to an advanced civilization that existed long before dynastic Egypt. Aliens perhaps!?
Their theory is based on ancient Egyptian texts, including the Book of the Dead and the Turin King List, which reference gods and demigods ruling Egypt before the first pharaohs. The team speculates that these “gods” were actually living kings of a pre-cataclysmic civilization wiped out by a massive asteroid impact.
While the claims have captured the public imagination, they’ve been met with heavy skepticism. Dr. Zahi Hawass, Egypt’s former minister of antiquities, dismissed the study as “completely wrong” and lacking scientific credibility.
Professor Lawrence Conyers, a radar expert at the University of Denver, also criticized the findings, stating that the radar technology used cannot penetrate to the depths claimed. “It’s a huge exaggeration,” he said, adding that while small structures like shafts or chambers may exist, the idea of a vast underground city is far-fetched.
