Nida Yasir did it again. The woman managed to bring a far more problematic trope to her morning show. This time she arranged an arena for a saas-bahu catfight.
With all Pakistani drama serials surrounding the toxic saas-bahu (mothers-in-law and their daughters-in-law) antagonism dynamic, the last thing we need is to recreate that in real life. Yet, Nida Yasir invited mothers-in-law and their daughters-in-law to complain about each other.
The result is as problematic as one would expect, with women putting down other women, and patriarchy with the popcorn.
That’s why our ‘Soul Sister‘ Kanwal Aftab had to call this out on social media. One clip she shared from the show was of a working woman complaining about her daughter-in-law not wanting to be a stay-at-home wife.
Nida Yasir just topped her own problematic af standards on this show where she invited saas bahus to complain about each other.
Like here, a saas claims she hired a marriage bureau to find her a “perfect” bahu who is educated BUT MUST stay home – only to discover she’s “phuar”.🙃 pic.twitter.com/sK24FDOyiC— Kanwal Ahmed (@kanwalful) November 17, 2021
According to this elderly woman, she employed a marriage bureau to find her the ‘perfect bahu’. While she did find a doll-like daughter-in-law, who is educated, she’s disappointed with her inability to be the designated maid.
She was spilling her heart out as though ‘how do I overcome this problem or training my bahu’ as though the third world doesn’t have real problems.
While commodifying and objectifying women is a problem we should be focusing on.
Like forget commodifying women and calling them two in one – we’ll also degrade them on the show for their lack of interest in picking up after EVERYONE because their in-laws “demanded” a girl who stays home even after acquiring an engineering degree.

Presenting this on television is only normalizing this highly problematic mindset.
Yep and also definitely get inspired by it
