For weeks people awaited Noam Chomsky’s most awaited lecture in Habib University. And indeed, what the political activist had to say about Pakistan is eye-opening.
Noam Chomsky’s virtual lecture was part of Habib University’s flagship Yohsin Lecture Series. In the lecture titled, ‘Bullet Dodged or Merely Delayed: Reflections on the Future of Democracy, Nuclear Proliferation and the Looming Environmental Catastrophe in a Post-Trumpian World‘, aside from other global issues, Professor Noam Chomsky also talked about Pakistan’s lack of serious towards innovation, science and scientists.
“It’s sad that science has virtually disappeared from the country’s educational system.”

He mentioned that once there used to be an interest in rationally seeking out the truth and thirst for scientific answers. The renowned linguist and last visited Pakistan nearly 20 years ago.
“Pakistan used to have an advanced scientific establishment, Nobel Prize laureates [Abdus Salam] and so on, … Now science has virtually disappeared from the educational system.”
The cognitive scientist warned that Pakistan better get back on track in order to deal with the reality of the world today and the problems that come with it.
“Pakistan has no future if it is going to live in a world of religious superstition,”

The linguist also talked about the global threat of climate change and nuclear war.
