Pak Celebrities Speak Out Against Attack on Minorities in Faisalabad

Pakistani celebrities have raised voices and expressed outrage over the mob attacks on minorities in Faisalabad.

A wave of outrage and condemnation has swept across Pakistan in response to a horrifying incident that unfolded in a Christian neighborhood of Jaranwala tehsil in Faisalabad.

On Wednesday, an enraged mob attacked multiple churches, incited by allegations of the desecration of the Holy Quran. The attack resulted in the burning of the Salvation Army Church, the Saint Paul Catholic Church, and private homes, leading to widespread condemnation and calls for justice.

Pakistani celebrities express their solidarity with the affected Christian minority and demand justice.

Prominent figures such as Mahira Khan, Sajal Aly, Shehzad Roy, and more took to Twitter to voice their shock, anger, and sorrow over the tragic incident. Raees star Mahira Khan tweeted,

Shame on us! I can’t… how, why, when did we become this…

Sajal Aly also condemned the violence and expressed her heartbreak for the affected minority. She tweeted, “Such a Shameful act! Absolutely heartbroken and disgusted. I strongly condemn this act of violence against minorities. Praying for unity and peace. There is no place for violence in any religion.”

Music artist Shehzad Roy emphasized accountability, urging the state to apprehend those responsible for the violence. He wrote, “Earlier, we were scared of speaking up. Now, we should be scared if we don’t speak up. If the state does not arrest each and every person involved in it through video footage and make an example, then we are doomed.”

 

Ushna Shah lamented the timing of the incident, occurring on a day of national celebration. She tweeted, “As the rest of the country celebrates independence, our minorities burn.”

Actor Azekah Daniel strongly condemned the attack, demanding justice for the victims and highlighting the importance of media coverage. She wrote,

Dear mainstream media and journalists of Pakistan, today we are witnessing the beginning of ethnic cleansing in [this country]. Pakistani Christians are being persecuted, churches [are being] burnt down and the whole colony [set] ablaze, will you raise your voice for us?

Videos circulating on social media platforms showcased the disturbing scenes of hundreds of individuals brandishing weapons and setting fire to churches, as well as assaulting private residences.

The violence took place in Jaranwala, which is located approximately 115 km from Lahore, the capital of Punjab province. As authorities worked to restore order.

The response of these influential celebrities echoes the sentiment of the nation against such acts of violence.
