Arooj Aftab

Pakistani artist Arooj Aftab continues to make the country proud as she took home a Grammy for the ‘Best Global Music Performance’. Her track that bagged the accolade is ‘Mohabbat.’

The Pakistani composer was contending against Femi Kuti (“Pà Pá Pà”), Wizkid and Tems (“Essence”), Angélique Kidjo and Burna Boy (“Do Yourself”) and Yo-Yo Ma and Angélique Kidjo (“Blewu”) in the category.

In her acceptance speech the Arooj Aftab sounded like she’s still in disbelief this is happening.

“I think I’m gonna faint. Wow thank you so much. I feel like this category in and of itself has been so insane,” she said in her acceptance speech.

Aside from her huge win at the 2022 Grammys, the Brooklyn based singer was also nominated in the ‘Best New Artist’ category this year.

In the ‘Best New Artist’ category, she was up against acts like Olivia Rodrigo, The Kid Loroi, and Glass Animals, and several others.

Additionally, these weren’t her first Grammy nominations. Or even first Grammy win. Previously,  she bagged a Latin Grammy in the best rap/hip-hop category for her contribution to Residente’s Antes Que El Mundo Se Acabe.
