2018 has been a good year for Pakistani cinema with hits like the political satire Donkey Raja, social drama Load Wedding, and of course our very own Oscar nomination with Cake.In 2019, Pakistani movies are upping the ante with some anticipated releases.
Our film industry seems to be keeping its game strong with this year’s line up. With that being said, here are some new Pakistani movies to look forward to this year.
List of Pakistani New Movies
1. The Legend of Maula Jutt
Despite the legal battles The Legend of Maula Jutt movie remains one of the most anticipated hits this year. It is a remake of the hit 80’s classic.
The Legend of Maula Jutt cast includes A-listers such as Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Humaima Malick. Other actors include Gohar Rasheed, veteran actors Shafqat Cheema and Nayyer Ejaz, and a cameo by Ali Azmat.
If it wasn’t evident already, The Legend of Maula Jutt trailer may have been the best thing to happen to Pakistani showbiz this year.

Of course, there has to be at least one patriotic film in the list of Pakistani movies, 2019. Sherdil is a tribute to Pakistan Air Force (PAF). The focus has shifted from the Army to PAF after Parwaaz Hai Junoon (2018).
The movie is also a period piece set during the 1965 war. Sherdil cast includes Mikaal Zulifkar who plays a pilot and Armeena Rana Khan as the female lead. Other actors Sabeeka Imam, Laila Zuberi and Hassan Niaz are also part of this film.
3. Karachi Se Lahore 3
Wajahat Rauf, the director for Karachi Se Lahore (2015) will return for the third instalment. Karachi Se Lahore 3 cast members Yasir Hussain, Shahzad Shaikh and Ayesha Omar will return to reclaim their roles.
Writer Yasir Hussain and director Wajahat Rauf announced in August 2018 that Karachi Se Lahore 3 is in the cards.
Karachi Say Lahore 3 Release Date: June, 2019.
4. Wrong Number 2
Javed Sheikh will return for Wrong Number 2. This time he’ll be joined by Sami Khan and Neelum Munir.
Other Wrong Number 2 cast members include Mehmood Aslam and Nayyar Ejaz, along with writer Yasir Nawaz’s younger brother Danish Nawaz.
Wrong Number 2 Release Date: Around June 2019.
5. Love You Jutta
Humayun Saeed in another Punjab themed movie. The Pakistani movie, Love You Jatta as the name implies is a rom-com.
The script for the movie has been penned by multi-talented Vasay Chaudhry.
Main Hoon Shahid Afridi (2013) director Nadeem Baig will be at the helm of the project. The female lead has not been disclosed.
Love You Jatta Release Date: Eid-ul-Azha August, 2019.
6. Paray Hut Love
Combating the trend of love stories in the Pakistani film industry is the anti-trend. Paray Hut Love comes off as that kind of film.
Asim Raza director of Ho Mann Jahaan will lead this one. Mahira from the director’s former film was the first choice for Paray Hut Love, but later Maya Ali was cast.
Shehryar Munawer will play the lead and Zara Noor Abbas may also be cast in the movie. The story is set in Pakistan and Europe.
Paray Hut Love Release Date: Eid-ul Azha 2019
As you can see from the Zarrar movie trailer, this one promises to be an action thriller. This thriller will be about the life of a spy and feature Pakistani intelligence agencies.
Veteran actor Shaan Shahid is the writer and director of the film. Other Zarrar cast members include Kiran Malik, Adnan Butt and Nadeem Malik.
British cinematographer, Timothy Hallam Wood will be the Director of Photography (DoP). The project’s production studio, Pinewood is also British.
Zarrar Release Date: 14th August Independence Day, 2019.
Momina Duraid Productions and the director behind television drama Udaari Mohammed Ehtishamuddin are teaming up for Superstar.
Bilal Ashraf and Mahira Khan are the Superstar cast for the film.
The movie will be about the world of Pakistani celebrities. That won’t be hard for Mahira Khan. Though it should be said that Bilal Ashraf’s Yalghaar and Rangreeza tanked at the box office.
Durj is based on three real-life horrific incidents that took place in Pakistan. The film will follow a Pakistani cannibal who survives in a desert with his love interest.
Shamoon Abbasi is both the writer and director. He will also star in the lead role of Durj. Talented actress Sherry Shah will be seen opposite him. Sherry Shah shaved her head and put on 40 pounds for the role.
The Durj cast also includes Dodi Khan, Maira Khan and Nouman Javaid.
The film Baaji will see the comeback of Pakistani actress Meera. Baaji will be film-maker Saqib Malik’s directorial debut.
The Baaji cast includes Osman Khalid Butt, Ali Kazmi, Mohsin Abbas Haider, Amna Ilyas, Nisho, and Nayyar Ejaz.
Baaji Release Date: Sometime in 2019.
