Pakistani Version of Money Heist is a Marketing Stunt Done Right

This isn’t a movie or TV series but something else entirely.

50 crore money heist

A few days ago, Pakistanis got into their trolling mode when they saw teaser trailers for 50 Crore. Many of us thought that local filmmakers are remaking a popular crime series from Netflix, albiet with a more desi flavor.

However, it seems that local media reports allege that this is not a movie, nor a TV series. Instead, it may well be an ad campaign for an online shopping brand. Well, dang. This may have served its purpose as a successful marketing ploy!

Yesterday, Pakistani Twitterati were out trolling the Pakistani film industry for unapologetically copying the Spanish Netflix series  La Casa de Papel, more commonly known as Money Heist.

50 Crores?

Let’s take a look at some of the trailers that caught the public’s attention and had them wondering if a ‘Money Heist’ ripoff was in the making:

For those of you who have seen the popular Netflix series already, they had their doubts. Not only is the setting and the whole look of these characters look like they’ve been copied off Money Heist, but even their names were also inspired by city names, just like in the show.

Needless to say, everyone started pouring memes on social media regarding this plagiarism.

The cast for this Pakistani ‘movie’ 50 Crore includes some prominent names like Faysal Qureshi, Aijaz Aslam, Saboor Aly, Asad Siddiqui, Anoshay Abbasi, Mehmood Aslam, and Faryal Mehmood.

Aijaz recently posted a video asking the public to be a little patient and gave them the consolation that they will not be disappointed.

A brand campaign?

Galaxy Lollywood recently reported that this ‘movie’ is not a movie at all but an advertisement campaign for an online shopping brand.

Wait, what? That is not what we were expecting at all.

Love it or hate it. This marketing campaign has really hit the mark with their strategy. Almost everyone is talking about this stunt.
