Pakistan’s Mahpara Khan Creates Exquisite Gown for Queen Máxima of Netherlands

The Dutch queen wore the gown to the royal Jordanian wedding this weekend.

In a remarkable collaboration, Pakistani designer Mahpara Khan had the extraordinary opportunity to dress Queen Máxima of the Netherlands for a prestigious wedding reception of Jordan’s Crown Prince Hussain and Princess Rajwa of Saudi Arabia.

The event marked a significant moment for Pakistani fashion as Mahpara showcased her exceptional talent on a global stage. The stunning gown featured a mesmerizing fusion of Mughal pattern design with intricate handcrafted details of dapka, naqshi, resham, and gota work.

With immense dedication and craftsmanship, Mahpara and her team of 20 artisans devoted nearly 100 days to complete the surface design, delicately embellishing the gown with exquisite handwork. The elegant ensemble was a testament to the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship of Pakistan.

The intricate detailing was a labor of love, highlighting the ancient techniques and traditions passed down through generations.

One of the challenges Mahpara faced was ensuring a perfect fit for Queen Máxima despite being physically distant. Collaborating closely with the Queen’s stylists for over 90 days, they meticulously refined the measurements and silhouette of the gown, aiming to create a global aesthetic while preserving the essence of Pakistan’s traditional motifs and patterns.

Reflecting on the experience, Mahpara expressed her pride in representing Pakistani craftsmanship and creativity on a global scale. Pakistani bridal and formal wear, she emphasized, are unique in their true handcrafted nature, involving the expertise of 50 different artisans for each dress.

The unexpected collaboration between Mahpara Khan and Queen Máxima was initiated during the Her Majesty’s visit to Pakistan in 2019. The Queen, upon seeing samples of Mahpara’s work, recognized the intricate detailing and craftsmanship involved, leading to months of coordination and design discussions.

Mahpara fondly remembers the Queen’s visit to her studio, describing her as incredibly genuine, down-to-earth, and humble. The experience reinforced the significance of showcasing Pakistani artistry to the world alongside renowned fashion giants like Elie Saab, Jenny Packham, Prada, and others.

As Mahpara Khan’s gown adorned Queen Máxima, it symbolized the seamless blend of cultural heritage and modern sophistication, leaving an indelible mark on the international fashion landscape.

The collaboration not only elevated the profile of Pakistani fashion but also celebrated the timeless elegance and craftsmanship that resonates with audiences worldwide.
