Parasite is earning it big globally. After making a wave on international platforms, it has become the first South Korean movie to win an Academy Award.
The Korean black comedy is the news on everyone’s lips. The movie has grossed $167.6 million worldwide and has talked about some serious issues of the modern world.
At the 92nd Academy Awards (The Oscars 2020) which was held on Sunday, February 9, the film accumulated a total of four awards, including Hollywood’s top prize the ‘Best Picture‘ award.
This was the very first time a foreign movie earned the Best Picture award, making Oscar history. The film also took home Oscars for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film.
According to director Bong Joon-ho, Parasite‘s story is,
“About gap between rich and poor and essentially capitalism.”

Parasite’s Achievements
The movie has made some interesting world records. It was the highest grossing Korean movie in North America and was screened in 40 countries worldwide.
With that being said, Parasite has taken home Golden Globes, Cannes’, SAG Awards, Bafta, AAFCA for its spectacular representation of the problems of the modern man.
It won’t be wrong to say that Parasite started a movement in the film industry to recognize foreign language movies. In his Golden Globes acceptance speech, Bong Joon-ho talked about embracing the culture and urged everyone to overcome the barrier of subtitles.
“Once you overcome the one inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films.”
With increasing global popularity, Director Bong Joon-ho is also making a collaboration with American director Adam Mckay. Talking to Entertainment Tonight, Bong Joon-ho hinted that Parasite HBO series is in works and they are trying their best to keep its originality.
