The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has become a cultural phenomenon, celebrated not only for its thrilling cricket matches but also for its catchy anthems that become anthems for fans across the nation. However, the recent announcement that Ali Zafar has dropped out from the PSL 9 anthem has left fans surprised and intrigued.

The decision comes after the notorious legal battle and controversy involving Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi, raising questions about the dynamics surrounding the entertainment industry.

Just two months ago, the news broke that Ali Zafar had been selected to produce and perform the PSL anthem for the upcoming season. This decision was met with approval from fans, given Ali Zafar’s previous successful contributions to PSL anthems.

A PCB spokesperson did not offer any comment on the matter in response to Dawn’s queries. Ali Zafar, however, told Dawn that he was officially contacted by the PCB to create the PSL anthem for this year.

After working on it for two months, hiring musicians and music producers at my personal expense, I came up with three different versions of the anthem for the PCB to choose from. After one of them was finalised and the release was being planned, I was informed by the PCB that I cannot go ahead with the anthem for reasons that I would not like to disclose at this point.

The unexpected announcement of Ali Zafar stepping down from the PSL anthem project has stirred speculation about the impact of the Meesha Shafi controversy on his career. While both artists have been involved in various projects independently, the proximity to a major PSL anthem project adds a layer of complexity to the situation.

Meesha Shafi - Ali Zafar

Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi have been embroiled in a legal battle since Meesha Shafi accused Ali Zafar of sexual harassment in 2018. The controversy has been a topic of discussion and debate, dividing opinions within the industry and among fans. Despite Ali Zafar consistently maintaining his innocence, the controversy has lingered, affecting both artists’ personal and professional lives.

The unexpected removal of Ali Zafar from the PSL anthem project underscores the complexity of the Meesha Shafi controversy and its impact on the entertainment industry. As fans await the announcement of a new anthem and artist, the incident prompts reflection on the challenges faced by artists in navigating personal controversies while fulfilling professional commitments.

The PSL, known for its ability to unite cricket enthusiasts, now faces the task of finding a replacement anthem that resonates with fans and continues the tradition of delivering memorable musical experiences during the cricketing extravaganza.
