PEMRA Orders Cable Operators To Replace Indian Channels With Pakistani Content

The Pakistani Electronic Media Regulation Authority, commonly known as PEMRA, has once again, decided to clamp down on illegal content.

This time, a ban has been imposed on Indian channels that were being aired by cable walas. PEMRA has cautioned all cable operators in the country to air Pakistani content and stop illegally broadcasting Indian channels. A crackdown, headed by Karachi Regional Office Chief Shiraz Asghar Sheikh, has been launched against the cable operators violating these instructions by Chairman PEMRA.

Many cable operators were caught in the act as they became subject to a snap inspection.

The operation team seized ten satellite receivers, two internet devices, two CPUs, six modulators, and two transmitters from Korangi Bilal Colony for broadcasting illegal Indian channels and content.

PEMRA has directed all cable operators to make sure they are duly following the rules in place, otherwise, action will be taken in accordance with the law.
