PIA Plane Grounded at Airport After Hitting a Bird

The aircraft narrowly escaped disaster as a bird collided with the right engine of the plane.

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) airbus and had to be grounded at KHI airport following a bird strike. The aircraft narrowly escaped disaster as a bird collided with the right engine of PK368 in Karachi. The airbus still managed to safely land.

Geo News reports, a spokesperson for PIA said a bird crashed into the plane shortly after takeoff. He added that such incidents occur due to the lack of an effective bird control system around the airport. Overcrowding and pollution are other contributing factors.

A PIA flight landed safely and was grounded due to a bird strike soon after take off. Damage to the plane will be assessed after transferring the passengers to the lounge.

According to the spokesperson, there were 162 passengers on board. He confirmed that the passengers of PK368 will be taken to Islamabad on an alternative plane or flight.

 

Another Bird Strike

Just recently in February, a domestic private airline’s passenger plane, PF-125 was hit by a bird while landing at the New Islamabad International Airport. Despite the impact of the bird strike tearing a hole in the airbus’ wing, the captain managed to safely land the Islamabad-bound flight from Karachi.

A spokesperson for the airline confirmed the bird strike saying the aircraft has been grounded and undergoing repairs.

At the time it was said, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) decided to install the acoustic bird repellent system at the country’s major airports to ensure flight safety. In the first phase, the repellent systems will be installed at Karachi and Lahore airports.

Meanwhile, CAA invited applications from well-known firms and individuals experienced in wildlife management at airports.

Yet another bird strike managed to cause more losses in the meantime. A airlines incur losses of millions of rupees in repair work of affected planes due to bird strikes.
