Bollywood’s Priyanka Chopra is ‘revisiting‘ her pro-war stance, after she was called out for praising the Indian Air Forces’ Balakot airstrikes in Pakistan. She went with the classic ‘my statement was taken out of context’ excuse.

Months after the very public backlash she received, Priyanka Chopra is now addressing her statement saying it was ‘given a different spin’. Irked by what happened she says:

“I have always been against nuclear war and will remain so,”

In an interview with the The Daily Beast, the actress said;

“It was unfortunate what happened, and… I have never been, never was, and never will be pro-war, and that is in my statement itself. My work for all of these years is a testament to that, and I don’t feel I need to keep regurgitating it.”

Background

Following a suicide attack in Pulwama, Kashmir on February 14th, India looked to Pakistan as a scapegoat.

Later on February 26th, the Indian Air Force (IAF) illegally entered Pakistani airspace and carried out the ‘Balakot airstrikes’. This lead to a retaliatory response from Pakistan as IAF’s planes were shot down and an IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan was taken into custody.

Like most of Bollywood, Priyanka Chopra lauded the IAF that pushed Pakistan and India to the brink of war.

She was criticized for being pro-war and lauding a move that could lead to nuclear war.

The Baywatch actress was called ‘a bit of a hypocrite’ by Pakistani-American beauty blogger Ayesha Malik at BeautyCon in Los Angeles.

That’s when Priyanka Chopra supported her statement saying;

“I’m patriotic, …. We’re all here for love.”

Seems like all that public pressure did do something.
