Well known naat khwan Mehboob Hamdani passed away at Lahore on Wednesday, October 21. The veteran reciter was battling with cancer for the last several months, however, the cause of his death was brain hemorrhage. Mr. Hamdani took his last breath at Ittefaq Hospital.

Mehboob Hamdani started his career in the 60s with his brother Marghoob Hamdani. Their father was also a naat khwan and it was his wish to see both of them to follow his legacy.

“It was his encouragement that my elder brother and I devoted ourselves to naat recitation,” he said.

He had also received the Pride of Performance award in 2000 and recited naats not only in Pakistan, but also in the Middle East and on other private TV channels. According to his younger brother, Mr. Hamdani also ran a travel agency and tried to facilitate pilgrims in Pakistan as well as Saudi Arabia.

Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and many others expressed grief over the demise of Mehboob Hamdani, calling it a big loss. They remember his services to the nation and are recalling their memories from early PTV era.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray that his soul rests in eternal peace.
