The 21st century has seen a lot of changes. Some might say those changes are bad, while my view is more optimistic.  We have seen more awareness of how racism is a bad thing, and why people from diverse backgrounds and orientations need to be accepted for who they are – human beings.

This is how the show takes us on a journey with The Fab 5. Even though they’ve had a difficult life to begin with, they are at a much happier place now, and their desire to share that love and acceptance of oneself has left viewers in awe.

So without further ado, let me introduce you to the FAB FIVE!

Jonathan Van Ness might have positivity for the whole world combined. He is the “YES QUEEN” enthusiast, who is the hairdresser and aesthetician on Queer Eye. He has openly spoken about HIV, sexual abuse, addiction, depression and eating disorders in his books.

Karamo Brown, the Culture Expert

While others have an aesthetically pleasing approach towards a makeover; Brown, the culture expert, digs a little deeper into the problems surrounding distressed individuals. The now 39-year-old Karamo resolves issues that leave the nominees of the episode in need of transformation.

Karamo was 16 when he came out to his parents. Since then, life has thrown some obstacles his way, like finding out he has a 10-year-old son. A person of color struggles as it is, and with the “queer” attached to it, the racism he faces has increased manifold.

Although some might find it hard to believe; the real repercussions of racism can be seen in Episode 3 when the Fab Five are stopped by the police and Karamo loses all focus. Within seconds he goes from Karamo “The Culture Expert” to Karamo the black person who’s being stopped by the police.

Despite all that, his presence is filled with warmth, which helps him connect with everyone on a more personal level. He has also written a memoir “Karamo: My Story of Embracing Purpose, Healing, and Hope” where he talks about battling addiction and everything Queer Eye-related.

Boby Berk, the Design Expert

Bobby Berk might have the toughest job on the show, as he is the interior design expert. While a lot of us dread going home, Bobby shows us that your home especially your bedroom needs to look and feel like home for it to be comfortable.

He has helped people in representing more of themselves and what they stand for in their home designs.

Bobby comes from humble beginnings and has expressed he felt like an outcast growing up in a conservative family. Eventually leaving his home at the age of 15, Bobby has had his fair share of troubles. But he found love in transforming homes for the better. in 2019 he launched his own brand new collection. Although his role might be neglected in the series, he truly puts his heart and soul into the home transformations.
