Tamil megastar Rajnikanth’s Petta has been leaked online with its global release. Petta was released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.

Before Rajnikanth could steal the show at the box office, the film’s pirated version was leaked online. Indian media reported that the movie was available on a website called tamilrockers.

Still Playing to Packed Houses

Despite the movie being leaked online, Rajnikanth’s loyal fans are still swarming movie theaters across India. The megastar’s fandom is even flooding cinemas in other parts of the world.

In fact it seems the films profits remain unscathed by the piracy based on what trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai had to say.

“#Petta Opens Big in #USA Pre-sales Of Premiere Shows crosses $250,000. Good going will be the first to touch 1 Million among all South Indian releases,”

Rajni’s reign on the box office is set to continue. Others among the cast are artists Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vijay Sethupathi. Both stars have pivotal roles in the plot. Although these two are stars on their own, there’s no beating Rajni’s fan-base. The entire film is a tribute to the star.

The film-makers made the movie as a tribute to the superstar. Which is why the movie aims to bring back the old-school Rajni, in a new setting.

Director Karthik Subbaraj says that’s he’s always dreamed of working with the megastar.  Now that he finally got the chance to make a movie with Rajni, he made it as a tribute to the star.

“I had narrated the story to him in 2015 but it had to wait since he went on to do Kaala and then later announced his political entry. I kept thinking my life would remain incomplete if I never got the chance to work with him,”
