Rehman Malik Sends Legal Notice To Cynthia Ritchie Following Rape Allegations

The plot thickens.

Senator Rehman Malik, and his lawyer, have decided to take action against Cynthia Ritchie ever since the American blogger made controversial remarks about the late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, and how Malik allegedly raped her back in 2011. The senator’s lawyer has sent out a legal notice to the Islamabad-based blogger, asking for an “unqualified public apology” and the withdrawal of such slanderous allegations within 15 days.

Ritchie has been in the center of the controversy ever since she made a live video on her Facebook page on Friday. The American blogger accused several known politicians of “physically manhandling” her, including federal minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin and ex-prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

Referring to Ritchie’s tweet regarding the late prime minister, it says Malik “noticed all of a sudden you emerged on [the] social media scene and began a smearing campaign” against Benazir Bhutto, adding that subsequent action was taken by PPP leaders.

The notice also mentioned a tweet by Ritchie on June 2 in which she had accused Malik of illegally issuing a Pakistan Origin Card to a foreigner, adding that the claim was “strongly rebutted” by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

“Since you failed in your accusation, you started his character assassination by levelling bogus and disparaging allegations on June 5 through your Twitter and Facebook accounts,” the notice says of the rape allegation.

In a statement on Saturday, Yousef Raza Gilani also announced that he would be filing a defamation case against Cynthia Ritchie, saying that she “violated” his “respect by making such unfounded allegations”. Stay posted for more updates on this story.
