Lata Mangeshkar

As legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away in India, fans worldwide are mourning the loss.

Known as ‘nightingale of India’, the songstress had an incredibly successful career spanning over almost 70 years. Years later her works are deemed classics.

Lata Mangeshkar enjoys a massive fan following across the world aside from the sub-continent.

Unfortunately, she contracted COVID-19 and had been battling the virus until she passed away on Sunday. She had been admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) for a while until she breathed her last.

Many will miss her music. That’s why we compiled a list of memorable hits over the past seven decades.

Thod Diya Dil Mera

This single from Andaz (1949), includes the influences of Noor Jehan in Lata Jee’s singing. It’s no secret the Queen of Melody was an icon and inspiration for the Nightingale of India.

Jab Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya

This hit is from back in 1960 when she sang this song for the Mughal-e-Azam official motion picture soundtrack. She voiced many other songs for the soundtrack including Teri Mehfil Mein,

Chalte Chalte

This beautiful track was created for the film Pakeezah in 1972. Picturized to Meena Kumari and Raaj Kumar

Lag Ja Gale

You might not know this hit from the 1983 film Woh Jo Hasina, but we’re sure your grandparents remember this one.

Lo Chali Main

Remember this 90s hit that our parents would blare in the car? This is bound to hit with a wave of nostalgia. Lata Mangeshkar also voiced many other hits from the blockbuster movie Hum Aapke Hain Koun, such as Didi Tera Dewar Deewana.

Mere Khwabon Mein

Some people might argue Tujhe Dekha Tou is a bigger hit than Mere Khwabon Mein from the Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge soundtrack, but I’m biased, so there. This coming of age song was not so common in Bollywood movies growing up.

Tere Liye

This is a 90s classic we all know. While the lyrics themselves will hit you hard Lata Jee’s vocals are what make this song hauntingly beautiful.

Humko Humise Chura Lo

Her more recent hits include this love ballad from the early 2000s. This movie made us laugh and cry and much more. Not to mention how it had us exploring love in our tweens.

O Paalanhaare

Who can forget this track from the blockbuster period drama Lagaan. Even if you don’t understand a word the song touches your soul.

Luka Chuppi

Her more contemporary hits include the famous Basant anthem Luka Chuppi from Rang de Basanti. While Aamir Khan might have made the movie famous, it’s Lata Mangeshkar’s vocals that made the soundtrack a hit.
