British-Pakistani actor Riz Ahmed has made an impassioned plea to stop Israel’s brutal bombing of Gaza. He stated that Israel’s retaliation against the oppressed Palestinians are “morally indefensible war crimes.”
The Oscar-winning actor expressed that, in his heart, he believes there is only one side in the Israel-Palestine conflict – the side of humanity.
In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Riz Ahmed denounced the recent events in Israel and the ongoing suffering in Gaza, asserting that the pain and fear experienced by those affected is genuine and deeply felt.
Riz Ahmed’s message continued with a call for unity and action. He stressed that it is critical to recognize the suffering experienced by innocent civilians in Gaza and to act urgently to avert further loss of life.
The actor emphasized the importance of an immediate end to the indiscriminate bombing of Gaza’s civilians, the protection of vital infrastructure, ensuring access to food, water, and electricity, and preventing the forced displacement of people from their homes. Ahmed described these actions as “morally indefensible war crimes.”
The conflict escalated after Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,300 people, many of whom were civilians. In response, Israel officially declared war and initiated a series of airstrikes.
The Palestinian Health Ministry has reported that more than 2,700 Palestinians have been killed since the conflict began, and the United Nations estimates that at least 1 million residents of Gaza have been displaced, raising concerns of a humanitarian crisis.
Riz Ahmed called on people to empathize with the people of Gaza and to speak out before it becomes too late. He acknowledged the difficulty of finding the right words to address the situation but emphasized the importance of breaking the silence. Ahmed concluded by stating, “Staying silent is not an option.”
The actor’s heartfelt plea adds to the growing international chorus calling for an end to violence and suffering in the region and for the pursuit of a peaceful resolution to the long-standing Israel-Palestine conflict.
