Riz Ahmed Film “Sound of Metal” Gets Picked Up By Amazon Studios

The movie about a deaf drummer will be released internationally.

British-Pakistani actor, rapper and writer, Riz Ahmed (aka MC Riz) has been making headlines with his award winning film ‘Sound of Metal’. Ever since its world premiere Toronto Film Festival, studios have lining up to acquire the rights of the film. Recently, the film has been picked up by Amazon Studios.

The Story behind Sound of Metal

A first feature film by Darius Marder, who is mostly known for his work in documentaries, ‘Sound of Metal’ is a story of a heavy metal drummer (played by Riz Ahmed) who suffers from hearing loss after constant drumming in a heavy metal band.

Alongside Riz, the film’s cast include Olivia Cooke, Paul Raci, Mathieu Amalric and Lauren Ridloff.

A Sleeper Hit of 2019

The film received award for Best Film at Zurich International Film Festival. Originally, the film had limited theatrical release. However, with Amazon Studios acquiring the rights, ‘Sound of Metal’ can be viewed internationally to a much wider audience.

Riz Ahmed’s Rise To Fame

Riz Ahmed has been one of the most talented actors in Hollywood, who rose to prominence with roles in the hit HBO mini-series ‘The Night Of’ and films such as ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’, ‘Four Lions’, ‘Nightcrawler’ alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, and even starred in ‘Star Wars: Rogue One.
