Canadian travel vlogger Rosie Gabrielle is worried that Hunza might lose its traditional values. The northern valley has become an exotic vacation spot for city dwellers and this has posed a threat to the culture of the locals.

A music festival was recently held in Hunza, which raised serious concerns among the locals. Some even reached out to Rosie, hoping she would use her platform to help them. She shared their messages in an Instagram post titled ‘Keep the North Pure’.

“As tourism rises in Pakistan, especially local tourists, there is a growing problem that needs to be IMMEDIATELY addressed before it’s too late. Since Covid happened & travelling outside the country has decreased, there’s been an influx of people flocking to the north. But instead of bringing just their smiles & leaving only good memories, they are bringing bad behaviours, drugs, vulgarity, rave parties & leaving a lot of TRASH!”

Rosie Gabrielle shared photos of the trash left by the festival-goers, the vulgar photos from the festival, and screenshots of her conversations with local people.

The general concern raised by the people of Hunza was that the recent tourist activities have been spreading ‘obscenity’ and ‘drug culture’. The people are worried that their values are being threatened.

“I understand that people need to express themselves, release pent up energies & get out of their suffocating lives. But coming to a sacred land, feeling privileged & entitled to destroy it, bringing your toxic habits to innocent communities is NOT okay! By introducing these behaviors & substances you’re destroying a culture. By leaving your trash, you’re demolishing the land, & disrespecting the house of God. It is not your RIGHT!”

The traveler pointed out the importance of responsible tourism and if authorities do not take action, there will be nothing left.
