The brutal murder of 17-year-old Sana Yousaf in Islamabad has sent shockwaves across Pakistan, prompting an outpouring of grief and outrage from the country’s leading celebrities.

From Mahira Khan to Farhan Saeed, many have taken to social media to demand swift and severe justice, not only to condemn the incident, but also to address the mentality of Pakistani men and the culture of entitlement and violence against women.

Mahira Khan was among the first to call for accountability, demanding that the perpetrator be made an example of. She stressed that unless society confronts and punishes such behavior publicly, these crimes will continue. “If we do not take this to task this will not stop!! Show his face – make an example out of him!!” she wrote.

Sajal Aly highlighted the root of the problem: a lack of empathy and respect for women’s autonomy. “A girl lost her life simply for saying no. What kind of world are we living in? The lack of empathy is terrifying,” she wrote, urging society to learn to respect boundaries and value life. Her message was a call for a fundamental shift in how men are raised to view women and rejection.

Maya Ali expressed her anger at the repeated targeting of women for so-called “honor.” She demanded that the killer be arrested and hanged, stating, “No mercy. No more waiting.” Maya questioned why women are always made to pay the price for men’s wounded egos, and called for authorities to act without delay or excuses.

Imran Abbas addressed the broader pattern of violence against women, noting that this was the fifth such case in recent months. He called on the government to take immediate action against crimes committed in the name of “honor,” highlighting the urgent need for systemic change.

Mawra Hocane directly criticized the normalization of toxic male behavior in society and media. She wrote, “A 17 YEAR OLD WAS KILLED because a boy thought it okay to do so when rejected… I hope and pray that the authorities make an example out of the perpetrator.” Mawra’s statement was a clear indictment of the entitlement that some men feel over women’s choices.

Dur-e-Fishan Saleem went further, urging men to “kill their entitlement, their rage, their need to control.” She called for a sacrifice of ego and emotional immaturity, especially when faced with rejection, and challenged men to reflect on their attitudes and actions.

As the investigation continues and the suspect remains in custody, the demand from Pakistan’s leading celebrities is clear: justice for Sana Yousaf, and a reckoning with the mentality that led to her tragic death.
