Shahrukh Khan Flop Movies that Shook the Box Office

Zero wasn’t the first time the megastar’s movie tanked.

This past year was not the best for the House of Khans, particularly Shahrukh Khan. His recent film Zero could not even cross the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office. As far as Shahrukh Khan flop movies go, this was quite the surprise.

King Khan was supposed to play India’s first astronaut Rakesh Sharma in a biopic film but he decided against it. SRK decided not to go through with the role because he’d rather focus on Don 3.

A Shahrukh Khan film tanking at the box office is considered quite the rare incident. However, this has happened before too.

Shahrukh Khan Flop Movies that failed

These are the biggest Shahrukh Khan flop movies to date.

Contents

1. Jab Harry Met Sejal

Jab Harry Met Sajal film looked like a cheap rip-off of Hollywood’s “When Harry Met Sally” at first glance. The story-line was different though, different but bad. So bad that it could not muster much money at the box office.

2. Fan

The film features Shahrukh Khan in a double role. The good guy, bad guy routine didn’t last a week in theatres. Fan (film) really didn’t need to be made because it was one of the biggest flops of Bollywood in recent memory.

3. Zero

This is a fresh one, with SRK as a dwarf who is in love with a handicapped woman. Other than the brutal honesty and realism that Katrina Kaif’s character brought there was nothing worth watching. It came out recently, and quickly became one of the biggest flops of Shahrukh Khan. Zero’s box office earnings are nothing to write about as well.

4. Billu

Even Irfan Khan’s acting and cameos from Bollywood’s most beautiful divas Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone could not help this film. Although the story was good (it was a remake of a Malayalam film after all) audiences just didn’t take to it.

5. Paheli

Another incident of Shahrukh Khan experimenting with new characters. SRK played a Rajasthani villager in this one, with Rani Mukerji as the leading lady and Amol Palekar at the helm. It was one of those films that wasn’t artsy enough to be indie but not glam enough to be commercial, so it landed on its face at the box office.

6. Swades

In Swades (film), SRK tried playing a versatile character. The film was inspired by the NRI duo Aravinda Pillalamarri and Ravi Kuchimanchi. The couple that returned to India and developed the pedal power generator. The Swades cast was pretty good and it is considered one of SRK’s finest performances. But despite its status as a cult classic it wasn’t a commercial hit during its time.

7. Asoka

Asoka (film) is an instance of King Khan playing up his look to fit into a character. People didn’t take to the storyline or maybe Shahrukh’s avatar. No one can really say why this Santosh Sivan script and direction couldn’t do well.

8. One Two Ka Four

One Two Ka Four is a Bollywood crime drama. The film was directed by Shashilal K. Nair. It just couldn’t stick at the box office.

9. Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani

Shahrukh Khan’s last movie opposite Juhi Chawla. After that, he established his own production house Red Chilies. This movie was a satire based on media. It was a pretty average watch and no wonder it made it to the Sharukh Khan flop movies list.

10. Koyla

This movie does have a cult following but that fan-base consists of SRK fanatics. The film is iconic and watched at every SRK marathon but not a commercial hit.
