Shaniera Akram Calls Out Politician For Not Taking Responsibility for Karachi

Hours after her tweets, the shore was ‘magically’ cleaned.

Just hours after Shaniera Akram, wife of former Test captain Wasim Akram, called on the Sindh government and other relevant authorities over how dangerous Karachi’s famous beaches have become, the shore was magically cleaned.

On Tuesday, Shaniera put the Sindh government on notice for neglecting Karachi’s Sea View beach which was covered with medical waste. She shared several videos and photos of the frequently-visited seaside, which looked more like a garbage dumping site currently.

“I have stayed silent for too long. Every TV channel needs to be running this now. You have a duty of care to protect the lives of the people of Karachi and tell them Clifton beach is totally unsafe for everyone,” she tweeted.

She urged the government to immediately close the beach for the public as it had turned into a dangerous place instead of a picnic point.

Shaniera is not pleased

In another tweet, Mrs. Akram asked the authorities as to why the beach was still open.

“Why is the beach still open? For me, This is not a blame game; this is a “we need to act now” problem & close the beach. I don’t want to be in this position, but I have no choice peoples lives are at stake, and I was faced with a moral obligation. People needed to know about this.”

The tweets went viral and directed public rants towards the provincial government.

The social media backlash shook the authorities out of sleep. In the wee hours, Karachi police rushed to the seasides and blocked it for the public until municipal representatives came with heavy machinery and cleaned the seashore.

Sindh Government’s Version

While the cleaning work was on, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, the spokesperson to CM Sindh, visited the site with a dozen men.

He criticized Shaniera’s ‘call to attention’ post as a ‘negative tweet’ and said only a few syringes were found at the beach.

As to why wasn’t the beach kept clean, Murtaza says that they do not come under the Sindh government’s jurisdiction. Nonetheless, Wahab vowed to ensure that the beaches were kept clean and preserved from medical or any other kind of waste.

Bhabhi Hits Back

The Australian wife of Wasim Akram didn’t come slow and responded to Murtaza Wahab’s tweet with a call to own Karachi instead of shifting blame on each other.
