All good, involved fathers do this for their kids

While mom bashing has been around for ages, dads are lauded for doing the bare minimum. So when Iqra Aziz was singing Yasir Hussain’s praises for being a good father, Sharmila Faruqui said it’s no big deal.

The Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3 actress posted a picture of Yasir Hussain changing Kabir’s diaper on Instagram.

“A pamper and clothing change session before leaving for work,” she captioned the picture.

Yasir Hussain jokingly commented;

“Pata hota toh koi acha pose banata. (Had I known I would have posed better)”

While many jumped to laud the new dad too, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) politician Sharmila Faruqi didn’t. She pointed out how while it’s not the norm for Desi men to be involved parents, caring for his child isn’t a big deal. That’s what parents should be doing.

“I’m so glad your husband is hands on but it’s nothing to be proud of or anything special, all good, involved fathers do this for their kids. My husband bathes, changes diapers, feeds and takes our son for his pre-school if I’m at work or unwell. And he loves it,” said Sharmila.

Sharmila Faruqui called out how men being dutiful parents shouldn’t be treated as something special. The PPP politician then shared how her husband is as equally involved as her when it comes to parenting.

Raising a human child is backbreaking work. Compared to other mammals, human babies remain fully dependant on their parents for far longer than any other species.

Between caring for their well-being and contributing to their cognitive development, this is not a one-woman job.

No wonder they say it takes a village to raise a child. Or at the bare least, two parents.
