Students Demand the Cancellation of Exams Amid Third Wave of COVID-19

cancel exams

Pakistan is battling hard with the third wave of coronavirus. As we face another partial/smart lockdown, the health and education authorities have refused to cancel this year’s exams.

In a series of tweets, the Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood had said that decisions regarding the exams are being made ‘keeping the best interest in view’. SOPs will be respected and all examinations will take place as per the timetable. He wrote:

I also want all students to know that our decisions are made keeping their best interest in view not what is popular. Educational institutions are closed on the advice of health authorities. Decisions about exams are being made considering what is best for them. Have faith!

However, the decision has not gone down well among students as they feel they are being put at risk by the government.

To urge the government to cancel the examinations, the students have once again started a trend on Twitter. While SSC and HSC students demand the cancellation of the board and inter exams, Cambridge students also want the government to cancel CAIE as the UK has already cancelled it for their students.

#cancelboardexams2021 and #cancelcieexams2021 were trending on Twitter last night as students protest against exams in class rooms.

Some of the tweets were equipped with memes…
