A creator par excellence

While most of us gave credit to production company Hanna-Barbera for delivering memorable kids content for years, people often fail to give recognition to the people who created these incredible cartoon characters.

It was Joe Ruby, who worked alongside fellow animator Ken Spears, to bring us the Scooby-Doo franchise. He and Spears helped create the ‘Scooby’ universe that features the jock Freddie, the nerd Velma, the fashionista Daphne, the hippie Shaggy, and his Great Dane Scooby.

The series was such a huge hit that it spawned numerous spin-offs, movies, and reboots, even as recent as 2020!

Still, none of these new versions could ever capture the brilliance of the original or OG Scooby-Doo that first aired back in 1969.

Joe Ruby is also responsible for creating other memorable series such as Jabberjaw, Alvin and The Chipmunk, Dynomutt, and many more.

Although Ruby may be gone, his legacy will forever live on through Scooby-Doo. He is also survived by his wife, Carole and their four children as well as ten grandchildren.

We say our heartiest thank you to Joe Ruby for brightening our childhood.
