It’s been over 12 years since we last saw the office staff of Dunder Mifflin but we’ve got some good news because Peacock is to release an upcoming spinoff of the beloved series.

Oscar Nuñez will reprise his role as Oscar Martinez in Peacock’s upcoming spinoff series set in the same universe as The Office.

But before you start imagining Oscar as the new Michael Scott, sources say he won’t be the central character. Instead, the new show will be an ensemble mockumentary sitcom, much like its predecessor. Nuñez’s character has been part of the script from the very beginning, but details about his role or storyline are being kept tightly under wraps.

The untitled series — rumored to be called The Paper — will follow the staff of a struggling Midwestern newspaper as their desperate publisher attempts to revive it with volunteer reporters.

And here’s the kicker: the same documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch will be “filming” this new workplace, which might explain how Oscar Martinez ends up in this new setting.

The show is being helmed by Greg Daniels, the mastermind behind the American version of The Office, and Michael Koman of Nathan For You fame.

As of now, Oscar is the only confirmed cast member from the original series. However, since the new show exists in the same universe, there’s always a chance for surprise cameos.

The new series boasts an impressive lineup of fresh faces, including Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars), Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus), Chelsea Frei (Poker Face), Melvin Gregg (Snowfall), Gbemisola Ikumelo (Black Ops), Alex Edelman (Just For Us), Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever), and Tim Key (The Witchfinder).

The Office, which ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013, followed the hilariously mundane lives of the employees at Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch. Starring Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and a host of other comedic heavyweights, the show became a cultural phenomenon.

Its popularity has only grown in the streaming era, where it remains one of the most-watched series of all time.

The spinoff is still in production, and while no official release date has been announced, fans can expect to see the series on Peacock sometime in 2026.
